The practice was founded in 1948 by Dr Joseph Devlin, now sadly deceased and was originally located at 49 Great James Street, Derry. The first long-term partner was Dr Tom Casey who stayed with the practice for 15 years. When Dr Casey left in 1963 a group practice was formed with Drs T McCabe, Donal MacDermott (both now sadly deceased) and R McClean.
Dr Joseph Devlin retired in February 1979 and his son Dr Martin Devlin then joined the practice. The practice moved to new purpose-built premises in Great James Street Health Centre in April 1981.
Over the next 17 years, Dr Anne Doherty, Dr Eamon Doohan and Dr Lee Casey joined the practice. Dr Samson joined in 1981 and retired in April 2000, when he was replaced by Dr Mary McClay. Dr Conor White joined in 1983 and retired in 2009. Both Dr Samson and Dr White are now sadly deceased.
In 2010 two new partners joined the practice, Dr Nicola Duffy joined in April, followed by Dr Ciara McLaughlin in October of that year. Dr Martin Devlin retired in 2013. In 2014 Dr John McLaughlin joined the Practice. In March 2016, Dr Ciara McLaughlin left the Practice to take up a post with HSCB (now SPPG - Strategic Planning & Performance Group). Dr Casey left the Practice in March 2019.
In October 2019 Dr Paula Sharkey joined the Practice as a new partner and Dr Ciara McLaughlin returned as a partner, she still works part-time with the SPPG.
In March 2020 Dr Anne Doherty retired as a partner.
In April 2022 Dr Sarah Grant joined the Practice as a new partner.
In July 2023 Dr Damilola Akinrinsola joined the Practice as a new partner.
The geographical area covered by the practice is a ten mile radius of the practice premises on the northern side of the border.
