    Autumn/Winter 2021 - Pressure on our service

Like all medical practices we are currently facing high demand for our service. As we move into Autumn, there are more viral illnesses around and patients are concerned and want to be seen by a doctor. In particular there are lot of babies and young children who need seen now. Add this to the ongoing care required for our elderly patients, those with pre-existing medical conditions, mental health issues, those whose hospital procedure has been postponed and anyone who becomes unwell suddenly this means our service is under tremendous pressure. There are no extra doctors available to help us at this time. All doctors, nurses, admin and other staff at the practice are working extremely hard to deliver the best service we can during this difficult time. We hope our patients understand when we have to operate an URGENT ONLY policy - this is done to ensure that the doctors can provide safe medical care and so those with the greatest need can access it. We will also be beginning our weekend flu vaccine campaign soon (and covid vaccine boosters when this is agreed by the Department of Health) - this means many staff will be working a 6-day week throughout the next few months. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.

    COVID-19 Vaccines

Covid-19 vaccine - From Monday 11 January we will be vaccinating patients aged 80years+ with the Oxford Astrazeneca covid vaccine. All eligible patients will be contacted by text message, phonecall or letter. Each week we will provide as many appointments for Covid vaccines as we need to - in line with the number of vaccines delivered to us by the public health agency. We aim to get all vaccines used up within the week we receive them. This may mean that we have less availability to deal with routine matters on one or more days per week. We hope that our patients will be understanding during the next few months as we aim to prioritise the vaccine campaign and deal with urgent matters only on clinic days. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

    Wearing masks- September 2020

Due to the high levels of Covid-19 circulating in our city we have implemented a strict policy of mask wearing for all - staff, patients, carers and other visitors - in the Health Centre. This is in line with the Northern Ireland Chief Medical Officer's recommendations (Aug 2020) and in the best interests of us all to ensure we keep each other safe and reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Our staff encounter many patients face-to-face every day so the risk of spreading the virus will be high if they are exposed to patients not wearing masks. We acknowledge that there may be some extreme personal circumstances when patients feel they cannot wear a mask so we ask these patients to inform us when booking an appointment. We will then try to make alternative arrangements to accommodate them. Our full policy is on display at the Practice.

If you have an appointment please ensure you attend at your allocated time. Any patient who has not been allocated a flu clinic appointment in October will be contacted to have their vaccine in November. We will contact patients by letter or by text.

    Covid-19 pressures

Message to our patients Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are continuing to experience very high demand for our service. Like many other organisations we also have staff (medical and administration) off isolating due to Covid. For these reasons the doctors can only deal with urgent matters until the end of October. We regret that we have to do this but in the interest of patient safety we must. Thankyou for your patience and understanding at this difficult time
